Scoliosis can suck it

Scoliosis really can suck it, I meant that when I wrote it as the title of this post. Nonetheless, we all have our issues and Kypho-Scoliosis is one of my crosses to bear. Quick anatomy lesson: Scoliosis is basically a “curvature of the spine”, I have 2 curves and I also have kyphosis (a rounding of the top part of my spine).

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not looking for pity, and this isn’t a blog about overcoming my deformed spine. It doesn’t deserve that much attention, nor is it severe enough to warrant that. But I did feel like I should lead with that because it may explain a few things and help you understand my journey a bit better.

So hi, my name is Carmel. I’m a health and fitness… enthusiast? I’m no expert but I’ve moved slightly beyond newb status, so let’s go with ‘enthusiast’ for now. Note to self, I need to come up with a better term, enthusiast sounds generic! I’ve been in the fitness game for a while, but didn’t take it half as seriously for the first years. The last few years I decided to really invest my body and mind into getting strong and fit. There are so many fitness bloggers, Gram’ers, Facebookers and whatever’s who have the chiselled 6 pack, the enviable squat peach or the Thor-like arms. So I figured we need a real blog from an everyday person, prepared to be real about their journey. No holds barred, the good the bad and the ugly, the highs and lows of living a life in the fitness world and trying to get fitter, stronger and tougher every single day. How ironic, as I sit here with tendonitis and small tears in my patella tendon, leaving me not able to train my legs right now. Also, leaving me partially stir crazy as I try not to lose myself and fall into a pit of demotivation and frustration. But I digress! Yours truly will be the champion of the fitness ‘enthusiasts’, the everyday people, without a 6 pack, without a “it’s all in the mind” tagline at every corner.

This is my fitness story and tips for the gym goer, the newb, other enthusiasts, and anyone with any anatomy issues that hamper their training. I feel you guys! Hopefully I can help and put a smile on your face, if nothing else.
